Google’s “Project Suncatcher” Looks to Build AI Data Centers in Space

Google is working on a moonshot initiative called Project Suncatcher, which envisions launching AI data centers into space. These solar-powered satellites would house Google’s custom TPUs (tensor processing units), harnessing the sun’s energy more efficiently and minimizing dependency on terrestrial resources like land and water. While still in the early stages, the project could reshape how we think about data infrastructure if Google solves challenges like thermal management and radiation resistance.
